Duties: |
The Council of Certified Professional Midwifery of Tennessee was created in 2000 by the State Legislature. It is responsible for safeguarding the health, safety, and welfare of Tennesseans by requiring those who practice as a midwife be qualified. The Council, working with the Board of Osteopathic Examination, interprets the laws, rules, and regulations to determine the appropriate standards of practice to ensure the highest degree of professional conduct. The Council is authorized to issue licenses to qualified candidates who have completed appropriate education and successfully completed required examinations. The Council, along with the Board, determines the appropriate standard of care, investigates alleged violations of law and rules, and disciplines licensees who are found guilty of such violations. |

Members of the council shall serve without pay. Members shall be entitled to reimbursement for per diem and travel expenses. |
